HBO has released a second trailer for its Jordan Peele adaptation of Lovecraft Country which is set to be released in August.

Created by Misha Green (Underground) and executive produced by Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams, the series is based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff and it’s set in 1950s Jim Crow America. Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors), his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollet), and Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) take a road trip to search for Freeman’s missing father (Michael Kenneth Willaims). While on their journey, they’ll have to deal with racism and supernatural monsters.

Also starring in Lovecraft Country are Wunmi Mosaku, Aunjanue Ellis, Jamie Harris, and Abbey Lee.

“I love stories,” says lead character Atticus Freeman in the trailer. “Heroes go on adventures to other worlds to fight insurmountable odds. Stories are like a living thing,” he continues.

Supernatural elements seem to be a major theme in the new series as the trailer shows a body being dragged along the dock by unseen forces and a woman being thrown around a room.
