Julianne Moore’s upcoming series Mary & George was supposed to premiere on AMC, but it just found a new home. The promising historical drama just moved to Starz, and the brand-new teaser trailer reveals what it has in store.

The official synopsis describes Mary & George as an audacious historical psychodrama based on a scandalous true story, about a treacherous mother and son who schemed, seduced, and killed to conquer the Court of England and the bed of King James I.

The Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore will play Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham, who schemed her way into becoming one of King James I’s most trusted advisers. She encouraged her naïve son George Villiers (Nicholas Galitzine) to seduce the King and become his all-powerful lover.

Tony Curran will join Moore and Galitzine in the role of King James I, while the supporting cast will include Nicola Walker, Niamh Algar, Trine Dyrholm, Sean Gilder, Adrian Rawlins, Mark O’Halloran, Laurie Davidson, Samuel Blenkin, Jacob McCarthy, Tom Victor, Alice Grant, Amelia Gething, Mirren Mack, Rina Mahoney, and Simon Russell Beale.

Mary & George was originally developed by the British broadcaster Sky Studios, and AMC was supposed to serve as its distributor in the United States. Plans later changed and this series will now air on Starz, with the release date yet to be set.
