Julie Andrews is one of Hollywood’s most enduring acting legends, whose movie career spans over five decades. It was just a matter of time before she was bestowed with an AFI Life Achievement Award – and that moment is finally here.

The Oscar-winning actress, who got her big break with Mary Poppins and went on to star in The Sound of Music and The Princess Diaries, will be presented with this award on April 25th, 2020 at a gala in Los Angeles. She’s joining the ranks of many legendary recipients who came before her, including Elizabeth Taylor, Meryl Streep, and Jack Nicholson.

Kathleen Kennedy, chair of the AFI board of trustees, announced their decision to present the 48th Life Achievement Award to Andrews and said they’re “proud to sing her praises” at the upcoming ceremony.

“Julie Andrews is practically perfect in every way. Her talents across time have inspired a shared sense of joy across generations, and her gifts to our cultural heritage are a testament to the power of this art form to bring us together when we need it most,” said Kennedy in a statement.
