If you enjoyed the ride that’s Disney’s new box office hit Jungle Cruise, then we have some exciting news for you. The studio just confirmed that the movie is getting a sequel, with the majority of the cast and crew making a return.

Jungle Cruise 2 will feature stars Emily Blunt and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, while director Jaume Collet-Serra and the entire producing team from the original are also on board. Michael Green (Murder on the Orient Express), who served as a co-writer on the first movie, will pen the sequel.

The news was also confirmed by The Rock, who shared his excitement with his social media followers.

Jungle Cruise follows Dr. Lily Houghton (Blunt), who is on a quest to find an ancient tree with unthinkable healing abilities and change the future of medicine. She enlists skipper Frank Wolff to take her down the Amazon River and help her uncover the tree. Soon, the duo finds out that the task is a lot more challenging than they originally thought.

Based on the Disney theme park attraction, Jungle Cruise was in the works since 2005. It was stuck in development hell until 2015 when Johnson joined the project. The movie ended up being filmed in 2018, but extensive pre-production and later coronavirus pandemic resulted in a three-year delay for the feature’s release.

Still, the wait was worth it for Disney, as the movie turned out to be a big commercial success. It earned $100.1 million domestically while bringing in another $87 million from other markets.
