The Juno Awards are coming back to honor Canada’s best recording artists this May, and some of our favorites are in the running for the top awards. Justin Bieber and The Weeknd both received five nominations, but newcomer Charlotte Cardin managed to surpass them and receive six nods.

Bieber, Cardin, and The Weekend are all in the running for the biggest award of the night—artist of the year— where they’ll also face Shawn Mendes and JP Saxe. The Weekend is the only one of these five artists to miss out on the best album nomination, with Tate McRae taking the fifth spot.

Unlike the rest of the major nominees, Cardin is the only artist whose name may be unfamiliar to the mainstream audience. She’s yet to gain international success, but she already has several Juno nominations under her belt and her debut album Phoenix reached no. 1 in Canada.

The 2022 Juno Awards will take place on May 15th at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto. This will be the first in-person ceremony since 2019, and Simu Liu, star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will be in charge of hosting the festivities.
