Justin Bieber knows exactly what it’s like to grow up in the spotlight, and his latest single “Lonely” explores the dark side of childhood fame. To make the whole thing even better, the music video for this song stars Jacob Tremblay as Bieber’s younger self.

Bieber recorded this song alongside Benny Blanco and admitted he had a hard time recording it due to the personal nature of the lyrics that made him aware of his own loneliness. The music video perfectly encapsulates the message of this song and shows Tremblay making his way from a dressing room to an empty theater, where Bieber is the only one watching.

Tremblay’s impressive filmography includes critically-acclaimed movies Room, Wonder, Good Boys, and Doctor Sleep, but he says the experience of filming this music video was unlike any other. “I’ve always played made-up characters, so I just really wanted to make sure that I had the feelings of the song and how Justin wanted me to feel. I really got to understand—it’s a bit more of a serious song but I’m really excited for people to hear it, so they can see the story,” Tremblay told Billboard.
