Fans of the original video game The Last of Us couldn’t wait to see who’ll be cast as Abby in HBO’s hit adaptation, and the cat is finally out of the bag! The Emmy-nominated actress Kaitlyn Dever joined the acclaimed post-apocalyptic series in the role of Abby.

Abby was featured as one of the two playable characters in The Last of Us Part II alongside Ellie. Her black-and-white view of the world transformed her into one of the franchise’s most polarizing characters, and she spent the game seeking vengeance for those she loved.

The Last of Us creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann confirmed Dever’s casting shortly after the rumors surfaced online.

“Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material… We’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro [Pascal], Bella [Ramsey], and the rest of our family,” said the duo in a statement.

The second season of The Last of Us will be filmed in Vancouver, Canada, and it’s set to kick off production in February. The first season recently won eight trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys, and it’ll also be in the running for five awards at the Primetime Emmy Awards this Sunday.
