Kanye West is no stranger to surprise releases, and he just gave us another one on Christmas Day. The rapper celebrated the big holiday by releasing a five-track EP titled Emmanuel, which he described as a record of “ancient and Latin inspired new music.”

Emmanuel translates to “God is with us” and it included a total of five songs: “Requiem Aeternam”, “O Mira Nox”, “O Magnum Mysterium”, “Puer” and “Gloria”.

Like his previous Christian-themed records, this EP is performed by the Sunday Service Choir, which West started back in 2019. They mostly held private semi-regular Sunday performances, before their first public show at Coachella in 2019.

Emmanuel isn’t West’s first album recorded with Sunday Service Choir that hit the shelves on Christmas. Back in 2019, they surprised the world with the release of their debut studio album Jesus Is Born. It was the follow-up to West’s solo album Jesus Is King which debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart and went on to receive a Grammy nomination for the best contemporary Christian music album.
