The lead in Paramount’s dark comedy Guilty Party has been recast.

Isla Fisher was supposed to headline and produce the series, but the actress had to depart from it due to COVID-19 circumstances. Kate Beckinsale will be taking her place as the lead.

The series centers around Beth Baker (Beckinsale), a discredited journalist who is trying to salvage her career by taking on a story about a young mother sentenced to life in prison for maiming and murdering her husband, crimes which she says she is innocent for. While trying to uncover the truth, Beth interacts with Colorado gun-smugglers, clickbait culture, a doomed marriage, and her tarnished past.

Rebecca Addelman will be writing and executive producing the series. Also executive producing are Sam Hansen, Jimmy Miller and Funny Or Die’s Joe Farrell, Jim Ziegler, and Mike Farah, with Becca Kinskey co-executive producing. Trent O’Donnell will be directing and executive producing.

Beckinsale was most recently in The Widow and she’s best known for playing Selene in the supernatural film franchise Underworld.
