Kate Mara is fresh off starring in the latest season of Black Mirror, and she’s gearing up for another exciting sci-fi project. She’ll play the lead role in the upcoming sci-fi thriller The Astronaut, also starring Laurence Fishburne and Gabriel Luna.
This promising project will center on an astronaut Sam Walker (Mara), who finds herself placed under intense NASA surveillance in a high-security house after miraculously being found alive in a punctured capsule floating deep off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean after her first space mission.
The Astronaut hails from Jess Varley, who’ll make her solo writing and directorial debut with this project. Highland Film Group will be handling the film’s foreign rights, with Fuller Media’s Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller, and Wonder Company’s Eric B. Fleischman and Chris Abernathy coming on board as producers.
Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser said they’re pleased that Mara and Luna agreed to join this project and help bring Jess Varley’s script to life. The company’s COO Delphine Perrier added that they’re delighted to collaborate with this team to bring this haunting sci-fi experience to global audiences.
The Astronaut will start filming in Ireland this October after receiving an interim SAG-AFTRA agreement.
