Are you sad that Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle left the Suits? Well, here is something that could ease the pain. Katherine Heigl, known for her role of Izzie Stevens in hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, is joining the cast of Suits for season eight.

USA Network revealed that Heigl will portray the role of Samantha Wheeler, “talented new partner at Pearson Specter Litt who challenges the status quo and will either become the firm’s greatest ally or most powerful enemy.”

Of course, we will have to wait a while to see how Heigl handles her new role since the second part of season seven is yet to air. Season eight will begin production in April.

Heigl is a longtime fan of the TV show and has watched it from the beginning. “Joining Suits was the perfect organic way to not only collaborate with an E.P. I admire deeply, but to also become part of a show and cast that I am an immense fan of,” Heigl said in a statement. “I have watched Suits from the very beginning and feel incredibly lucky to be the newest member of the Pearson Specter Litt family.”

Besides Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle, Suits could also lose Gina Torres, since a spinoff focusing on her character Jessica Pearson is in works by Aaron Korsh who created the original. The final episode of season seven should serve as a backdoor pilot for the spinoff.

Katherine Heigl first gained prominence for her role of Isabel Evans on The WB’s Roswell. She then portrayed Dr. Izzie Stevens in Grey’s Anatomy for six seasons, receiving numerous awards for her work including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Most recently Heigl starred in CBS’ canceled television series Doubt.
