Diablo Cody gave us one of the most iconic horror comedies of the late 2000s with Jennifer’s Body, and she’s ready to return to this genre. The Oscar-winning screenwriter wrote the script for Focus Feature’s Lisa Frankenstein, set to star Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse.

Lisa Frankenstein is set in 1989 and it centers on “an unpopular high schooler who accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.”

In addition to writing the script, Cody will also produce this project along with Mason Novick. They previously worked on several other films, including Tully, Young Adult, Jennifer’s Body, and Juno. Zelda William is coming on board as a director, making her feature-length directorial debut.

Newton is best known for her role in Big Little Lies, and the list of her credits also includes The Society, Supernatural, and Halt and Catch Fire. She most recently starred in The Map of Tiny Perfect Things and she’s set to make her MCU debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Sprouse is busy working on the final season of Riverdale, but that’s not stopping him from eying other projects. He appeared in Moonshot earlier this year, and he’s attached to comedy Undercover, also starring Zachary Levi.
