Katy Perry is no stranger to playful music videos with a hopeful message, and her Pokémon-themed visual for the new song “Electric” falls under this category. It shows the singer hanging out with Pikachu, growing and evolving by each other’s side.
Perry is a life-long Pokémon fan, and she got nostalgic about her time watching this show while visiting the Pokémon Café during her tour in Japan. This song allowed her to explore the themes of resilience and igniting your inner light by finding parallels between Pokémon’s story and her own life.
“Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness,” explained Perry in a statement.
“Electric” serves as the lead single from the upcoming Pokémon’s 25th-anniversary compilation record, titled Pokémon 25: The Album. This record is expected to feature a total of 14 tracks, and J Balvin and Post Malone will be amongst the artists making an appearance.
