Many A-list stars turned to television in recent years, and Keira Knightley is the next one in line. The Oscar-nominated actress landed the lead role in Netflix’s upcoming thriller series Black Doves.

This project hails from Giri/Haji showrunner Joe Barton, and it will center on “two old friends coming back together, finding trust in one another in a world where trust can get you killed and, ultimately, changing the course of each other’s lives forever,” per its official logline.

Knightley will play a woman with a secret identity named Helen, whose passionate affair goes awry after her lover falls victim to London’s shadowy underworld. She must then embark on a high-octane adventure alongside an old friend Sam, who’s been sent by her employers to protect her.

Black Doves will mark Knightley’s first major TV role in years, and the list of her television projects is pretty modest. She mostly starred in several British mini-series before she rose to prominence, such as ITV’s Oliver Twist and Doctor Zhivago.

Knightley most recently appeared in Hulu’s crime drama Boston Strangler and apocalyptic Christmas comedy Silent Night. In addition to playing one of the lead roles in Black Doves, she’s also coming on board as one of its executive producers alongside Joe Barton, Jane Featherstone, and Chris Fry.
