Amazing things happen every time Keke Palmer decides to show off her comedic talent, and she’s gearing up to do it again. She’s getting ready to lead the upcoming comedy The Backup, and she’ll also produce it alongside Kevin Hart.

The Backup will center on Ben, who decides it’s finally time to settle down after years of being player-at-heart. He decides to reach out to his childhood friend Alyssa (Palmer), but it turns out she’s already engaged—to a handsome billionaire no less.

She asks him to be her best man, but Ben decides to handle this situation by setting out to Maui with his boys to outshine her fiancé and win her back.

Chris Brew and Jordan Gouveia wrote the script for this project, while Hartbeat’s Bryan Smiley is producing alongside Keke Palmer and Sharon Palmer under Big Boss Entertainment, and Autumn Bailey-Ford of Autumn Bailey Entertainment.

Palmer is fresh off the success of Jordan Peele’s Nope, which grossed $171.2 million worldwide, and earned her several nominations and awards from critics’ organizations. She’s currently attached opposite Sacha Baron Cohen in David O. Russell’s Super Toys and will soon star in action-comedy Moxie for Amazon.
