Grey’s Anatomy has been hit with massive departures in recent years, and another beloved cast member will soon leave the pack. Kelly McCreary announced she’s stepping down from playing Maggie Pierce after nine seasons.

McCreary’s character was Meredith Grey’s half-sister, and she served as the hospital’s cardiothoracic surgeon since the end of Season 10. Nine seasons later, the actress is ready to bid farewell to this series, and her last episode will air on April 13.

McCreary released an emotional statement announcing her departure and said it’s been a tremendous honor to be a part of this show. She thanked Shonda Rhimes, Krista Vernoff, and ABC for the opportunity, and the incredible fans for their passionate support.

“To spend nine years exploring a character inside and out, while reaching a global audience with impactful stories, is a rare gift… Playing Maggie Pierce has been one of the true joys of my life, and I leave with profound gratitude for every step of this journey,” said McCreary in a statement.

Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy is currently airing on ABC, and McCreary isn’t the only actress we’ll see in a limited capacity. Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey bid her farewell to the fans on February 23, after the actress decided to reduce her involvement in the series.
