Tyler Perry signed a creative partnership with Netflix last year, and this first-look deal is already starting to pay off! The first trailer for his steamy thriller Mea Culpa just hit the shelves, and its star-studded cast is led by Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes.

According to Netflix’s official synopsis, this thriller “centers around a criminal defense attorney who takes on the case of a seductive artist accused of murdering his girlfriend, but when burning desire takes hold things get hot… and dangerous.”

Mea Culpa marks Tyler Perry’s fifth Netflix feature, and he’s already working on its follow-up Six Triple Eight, after signing a multi-year first-look deal with the streamer back in October.

Perry drew inspiration for this film from older thrillers from the ‘80s and ’90s and wanted to tackle the idea of exploring the best and worst of humanity through this genre. He found a perfect partner in crime in Kelly Rowland, who came on board as one of the producers, in addition to leading the film alongside Moonlight’s Trevante Rhodes.

Mea Culpa will also star Sean Sagar (The Gentlemen), Nick Sagar (The Princess Switch trilogy), RonReaco Lee (Nappily Ever After), and Shannon Thornton (P-Valley). It will premiere on Netflix on February 23.
