Kendrick Lamar hasn’t given us any solo singles since his last album Damn hit the shelves in 2017. The rapper’s fans have been patiently awaiting his next LP for three years, and he recently explained why it’s taking him so long to finish.

Lamar recently discussed his approach to music in an interview for i-D with the fellow rapper Baby Keem, and said it takes him long to finish up new albums because he enjoys playing with new sounds.

“I spend the whole year just thinking about how I’m gonna execute a new sound, I can’t do the same thing over and over. I need something to get me excited. I see you get frustrated sometimes because you want some new s—t,” explained Lamar.

The Grammy-winning artist hasn’t released any solo music since the release of Damn, which produced his first solo no. 1 Billboard Hot 100 “Humble” back in 2017. He still managed to give us many amazing collaborations in the past two years, including “All the Stars” with SZA and “Pray for Me” with The Weeknd.
