It’s been months since Kendrick Lamar dropped his latest album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, but he’s not done promoting it. He shared a short film that accompaniess the song “We Cry Together” starring Taylour Paige, who recorded this track by his side.

“We Cry Together” was directed by Jake Schreier, Dave Free, and Lamar and shot in a single take. It chronicles the inflammatory argument between a young couple, played by Lamar and Page, who trade callouts and insults in the form of the song’s lyrics before working out their differences.

Page discussed the process of filming the video with Hollywood Reporter, reflecting on its voyeuristic nature and the process of making it. She said there was something “vulnerable and intimate and honest” about being in the studio with Lamar and they brought that same energy to the short film.

“Kendrick and I just have a really great understanding of each other. Like, he’s so committed to the truth, and so am I… By the time we were together to shoot it, there was a level of comfortability and an energy that felt like we’re onto something here,” explained the actress.

“We Cry Together” is one of the songs featured on Lamar’s latest album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, which came out on May 13 and became his fourth studio album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
