Alex Garland has given us some pretty mind-blowing films in recent years, and his next will be the most thrilling one yet. The first trailer for his upcoming blockbuster Civil War is here, and its ensemble cast is led by Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, and Cailee Spaeny.

According to the film’s official logline “a race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge” while the United States stands on the brink of civil war, after 19 states have seceded from the union, starting a major conflict with no end in sight.

Dunst plays a journalist who’s trying to reach Washington and speak truth to power, but even she must admit that things have gotten out of hand, “Every time I survived a war zone, I thought I was sending a warning home: don’t do this.”

In addition to Dunst, Civil War also stars Wagner Moura (Narcos), Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Dune), Karl Glusman (Nocturnal Animals), Sonoya Mizuno (House of the Dragon), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), and Jesse Plemons (Fargo).

Civil War marks Alex Garland’s latest collaboration with A24, following Ex Machina and Men. It will be released on April 26, 2024.
