Kristen Stewart to Chair the 2023 Berlin Film Festival

The Berlin International Film Festival has found its president for 2023.

The festival is considered one of the “big three” in the industry, alongside the Cannes Film Festival and Venice Film Festival. Each year, a respected member of the film community is assigned the honor of chairing the jury. 

Kristen Stewart has been named as president of the 73rd Berlinale, following the ranks of Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Meryl Streep, and Juliette Binoche. 

“We’re excited about Kristen Stewart taking on this distinguished task,” stated festival directors, Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian. “She’s one of the most talented and multifaceted actors of her generation. From Bella Swan to the Princess of Wales she has given life to everlasting characters. Young, shining and with an impressive body of work behind her, Kristen Stewart is the perfect bridge between U.S. and Europe.”

Following her breakthrough role in David Fincher’s Panic Room at age 12Stewart has starred in several independent films, as well as the lead in the Twilight franchise. She has been the recipient of the BAFTA’s  Orange Rising Star Award for best newcomer and has also ventured into directing. 

“Kristen Stewart has become one of the most eminent international actors, thrilling audiences and critics alike,” continued the official statement. “She is currently working on her feature-length directorial debut, the film adaptation of the best-seller The Chronology of Water by Lidia Yuknavitch.

The 73rd Berlin International Film Festival will take place from February 16-26 2023.
