La La Land is one of the most successful musicals of the past decade and it was just a matter of time before it got its Broadway adaptation. That moment is finally here and the stage version of the Damien Chazelle-directed movie is currently underway.

La La Land starred Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a struggling jazz musician and an aspiring actress, pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles. It was a critical and financial success, earning $448 million on a budget of $30 million and winning six Oscars, including best director and best leading actress.

Marc Platt, who produce the original movie, will come back to produce its stage version, as well. He said he’s thrilled to reunite with Lionsgate and the incredible team behind La La Land to adapt the movie for the Broadway stage, the next exciting chapter in its evolution

“We’ve assembled a world-class team to create a musical that will delight La La Land’s millions of current fans and introduce the property to a whole new audience,” said Platt in a statement.

The Broadway adaptation will be helmed by the Tony-winning director Bartlett Sher and based on a book written by Ayad Akhtar and Matthew Decker. It will feature the original music by the Oscar winner Justin Hurwitz and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
