Lena Waithe gave us one of the most personal projects of her career with Twenties and she’s not done telling this story just yet. BET renewed the critically acclaimed comedy series for its second season.

Twenties is a semi-autobiographical account of Waithe’s life and centers on a queer African American woman and her two best friends, chasing their dreams in Los Angeles. It stars Jonica T. Gibbs, Christina Elmore, Gabrielle Graham, and Big Sean.

Scott Mills, president of BET Network, said he’s excited to see where Waithe’s “remarkable vision takes us in the second season.” She echoed his statement by thanking the network for giving her a chance to bring this deeply personal story to the small screen.

“It took a long time to get this show on the air, but it was absolutely worth the wait. I needed THIS phenomenal cast and crew to make it happen. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey with this amazing group of people and our incredible viewers,” said the Emmy-winning screenwriter.
