Lil Nas X always hits all the right notes with his music videos, and the nostalgic video for his latest single is no exception. “Sun Goes Down” shows him revisiting his high school years and looking back at the worst moments from his past that he left behind.
The 22-year-old singer serves as his own guardian angel in an emotional video that sees him reliving the ups and downs of his high school experience—working at Taco Bell, struggling with bullying, coming to terms with his sexuality, and feeling like he doesn’t fit in.
While discussing his latest single with People, Lil Nas X described it as his “most vulnerable song” and added it captured all the things he experienced during his upbringing that he wanted to share with his fans.
He delivered the first live performance of “Sun Goes Down” on the season finale of Saturday Night Live, where he made his debut as the musical guest.
“Sun Goes Down” will be featured on the rapper’s debut studio album Montero, together with the previously released single “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)”, which debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100.
