Lilo & Stitch is one of the latest live-action remakes announced by Disney+, and the studio found the perfect actress to lead this project. Newcomer Maia Kealoha has been chosen to lead the live-action adaptation of the Hawaii-set film in the role of Lilo.

Not much is known about Kealoha since this marks her first acting role. The six-year-old actress is no stranger to being in front of a large audience since she previously appeared in Little Miss Kona Coffee pageants in her home state of Hawaii.

Lilo & Stitch is still in the early stages of development, but Kealoha isn’t the first actor to join the cast. The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis was previously cast as Pleakley, the United Galactic Federation agent who pretends to be an expert on the planet Earth.

The creative team behind this project is also pretty impressive. Dean Fleischer Camp is on board to direct after receiving an Oscar nod for Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, while Chris Kekaniokalani Bright wrote the script.

The original Lilo & Stitch film came out in 2002, and it centered on an orphaned Hawaiian girl Lilo after she accidentally adopted a “dog” who is actually an alien genetically engineered to cause chaos and destruction.
