Before Lin-Manuel Miranda donned a deep blue coat and got the world obsessed with the American Revolutionary War in Hamilton, he turned his attention to New York City’s Washington Heights.

The 38-year-old‘s first few Tony awards were earned for his Broadway musical In the Heights which told the story of a Latin American family in Washington Heights.

A film version of the production was set to be made by the Weinstein Company but was extricated following the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct scandal.

Warner Brothers have now won the rights to make the movie after beating out other production houses.

The film is scheduled to feature the original music and lyrics written by Miranda (that won Best Original Score and Best Musical at the 2008 Emmys), and be directed by John Chu of Crazy Rich Asians.

We have to say that our excitement levels are in the heights, too.
