The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is one of the most exciting new movies coming our way this year, and Lionsgate just gave us a taste of things to come. The first trailer for this exciting prequel is here, and it stars Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth.

This film will center on the young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), as he tries to bring honor to his once-proud family after their fall from grace. During the 10th annual Hunger Games, he’s assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) from District 12, and he decides to use her showmanship and his newfound political savvy to turn the odds in her favor.

Director Francis Lawrence unveiled the trailer during Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentations and said the prequel will have a grittier and darker tone than the original films.

“One of the things that really interested me in the novel itself was just the scope of the story. And the fact that it’s an origin story not just of a character that we all know from the other series, but the origin of Panem and the origin of the Games,” said Lawrence.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will premiere on November 17, and it will also star Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis.
