It’s been a while since Lizzo dropped her latest studio album Special and she finally gave us a music video for its titular single. The spectacular visual for “Special” lives up to the song’s lyrics, and it sees Lizzo transform into a superhero to protect people from harm.
The Christian Breslauer-directed video starts with Lizzo flying into the frame in a purple superhero outfit. As the video progresses, we watch her save the day time and time again, from protecting a young girl from a car crash to saving a baby from a burning building.
“Special” was released as the third single from Lizzo’s fourth studio album of the same name back in January. She decided to name the whole LP after this song at Max Martin’s suggestion after he helped her change the hook of this song.
“I want the person [who hears] this to feel special. Everything now has this special feel to it, and this glow, this sparkle. Ever since that’s the era I’m moving into. It’s out of the darkness and into the light,” Lizzo previously told Zane Lowe.
Special was released on July 15, 2022, and it produced hit singles “About Damn Time” and “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)”. Lizzo is in the running for five Grammys with this album, including album, record, and song of the year.
