Solar Power is the most polarizing album of Lorde’s career, but mixed reviews didn’t stop it from becoming a huge hit in Australia. Following its release, this highly-anticipated LP climbed to the top of the ARIA Albums Chart, becoming her third album to do so.

Lorde is no stranger to topping this chart. She climbed to the top with her previous albums Pure Heroine and Melodrama.

She also hit no. 1 in her home country New Zealand but wasn’t as successful overseas. Solar Power is currently Lorde’s lowest-ranking album in the U.S. since it entered the Billboard 200 chart at no. 5. Her previous LP Melodrama topped the chart, while her debut album Pure Heroine reached no. 3. Solar Power was a bigger chart success in the UK, where it became Lorde’s highest-ranking album after it debuted at the no. 2 spot.

Solar Power was released on August 20th, and it was preceded by the singles “Solar Power”, “Stoned at the Nail Salon”, and “Mood Ring”. Lorde opted against making it available in the CD format for environmental reasons and released it to digital music platforms, streaming services, and vinyl LPs instead.
