Dominic Monaghan may not be heading back to the island, but he will be reuniting with Lost producer, J.J. Abrams.
The Lord of the Rings actor has signed on to be a part of Abrams’ latest project, Star Wars: Episode IX.
Production on the film began earlier this month, with the director’s foray into Twitter being a picture from the set:
Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie, but thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go. Grateful for @rianjohnson and special thanks to George Lucas for creating this incredible world and beginning a story of which we are lucky to be a part. #IX pic.twitter.com/FOfnGwVut5

Dominic’s role in the movie has not yet been revealed, but he will join the cast of Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega who will all be reprising their roles, as well as newcomers, Keri Russell of The Americans and The Hitman’s Bodyguard actor, Richard E. Grant.
Abrams also confirmed that Carrie Fisher will feature in the film Leia Organa with the aid of unused footage from Episode VIII after the late actress passed away in December 2016.
On being a part of the Star Wars franchise, Dominic has said, “The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved.”
Episode IX has been scheduled for a December 2019 release.
