The Beatles just can’t be anything else than a hit. Yesterday, the Danny Boyle movie featuring the legendary band’s greatest hits has just made the 100 million dollars’ mark.

The film debuted on theaters about a month ago and earned 59.15 million dollars in North America and 41.8 million dollars overseas. The studio plans to distribute it in 24 more countries – so the money is expected to keep flowing in.

Yesterday tells the story of an unsuccessful musician that after an accident wakes up to a world without the Beatles. By using the band’s songs, he becomes the biggest star in the world. With 17 million dollars at the domestic box office over the first weekend, it is considered the best opening movie in Boyle’s career. The Director is best known for films like Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, and The Island.

Considering the 26 million dollars’ investment in the film (not including the price for the legal rights to the use of the songs), it looks like Universal doesn’t really need a little help from their friends.
