Fans of the classic 1990’s show Beverly Hills 90210 almost missed out on the opportunity to see one of the main characters, Brenda Walsh, return to the reboot as actress Shannen Doherty was reluctant to get back to the show.

It turns out that Luke Perry’s death in March was what changed her mind. Perry played Dylan McKay – Walsh’s boyfriend (in some of the show’s seasons).

“For me, I felt like it was honoring him and his memory and what he meant to the audience and the fans and to all of us,” the actress told Entertainment Tonight. “As his on-set family, I felt like it was an important time for all of us to come together to honor him.”

Originally both Perry and Doherty were not lined up to appear on the new reboot. The show had one reboot on the CW in 2008 and the new reboot is going to be a meta-take on the show, dealing with events in the lives of the actors as they prepare for another reboot of the show.

Perry died from a stroke earlier this year at the age of 52. His fellow actors have promised that his death and the fate of his character will be dealt with in the first episode of the show.
