The Riverdale star has joined the horror-comedy feature Clare at 16.

Madelaine Petsch who plays Cheryl Blossom on the CW series is set to star and exec produce the feature based on the upcoming novel by Don Roff.

“Petsch is a huge star, and she is perfect to bring Clare to life,” Clare at 16 producer Cassian Elwes said. “I knew it had potential, but Petsch is going to take this to another level. Clare at 17 has also been written, and the story is ripe for sequels.”

The story follows Clare Bleecker, an orphan living with her parent and going to Catholic school. Clare only seems normal but underneath her reserved appearance she’s a sociopath with dissociative identity disorder and, well, a serial killer.

“The minute I picked up the script I was instantly intrigued by Clare,” said Petsch. “She has so much going on beneath the surface at any given moment and has a very interesting way of problem solving, which will make being her very fun and challenging. I’m thrilled and honored to be bringing her to life with an amazing team.”

Pre-production has been set to begin this spring.
