GLAAD introduced the Advocate for Change Award at 2013 edition of their awards ceremony, and they picked the perfect person to honor this year. Madonna will be the second individual to hold this award, after following in the footsteps of the first recipient – Bill Clinton.

GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis explained they decided to give this special honor to the Queen of Pop since her music served as life-saving outlet for LGBTQ people all over the world.

“Madonna always has and always will be the LGBTQ community’s greatest ally and it is only fitting to honor and celebrate our biggest advocate at GLAAD’s biggest event ever,” explained Ellis.

In addition to inspiring the LGBTQ community through her art, Madonna took some concrete action to show her support. She repeatedly performed at AIDS benefit concerts, spread awareness about this illness and spoke out against laws, policies, and practices hurting the members of this minority group.
