It Follows is one of the cult classic horrors of the 2010s, and rumors about its potential sequel have been circling around for years. After almost a decade of speculations, this critically acclaimed horror is getting a sequel They Follow, with Maika Monroe returning in the lead role.

It Follows centered on a young woman who is being followed by a mysterious supernatural force after getting intimate with her new boyfriend for the first time. The film sparked a heated debate about its message and the true meaning of “it” from its title and went on to become a cult classic of the horror genre over the years.

Rumors about its potential sequel started circling around after it grossed $23.3 million worldwide against a $1.3 million budget. Director David Robert Mitchell said he’s open to the idea, and the leading lady Maika Monroe echoed his statement.

“I don’t know where the story would go, but I would love to work with David, the director, again, because I think he’s incredible, and what he created here was something else. We’ll see how it does,” said Monroe, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The highly-anticipated sequel is officially in development under the working title They Follow, with both Mitchell and Monroe set to return. Neon is producing the movie alongside Good Fear Content, and the production will most likely kick off next year.
