Regina King’s directorial debut of One Night in Miami has released its first trailer.

The film takes place in Miami, Florida on February 25, 1964 and it’s inspired by true events with the iconic Black figures including Muhammad Ali (Eli Goree), Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom, Jr.), and Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), coming together to discuss the civil rights movement.

“You brothers — you could move mountains without lifting a finger,” Malcolm X tells Cassius Clay, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown in the trailer. The minister adds, “This movement that we are in is called a struggle — because we are fighting for our lives.”

The film is an Oscar hopeful and it could make King the first Black woman to be nominated for best director.

The film is produced by Jess Wu Calder and Keith Calder of Snoot Entertainment and Jody Klein of ABKCO.

One Night in Miami will be released in select theaters on December 25, 2020 and streamed on Amazon Prime Video on January 15, 2021.
