Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were one of the most iconic duos of Hollywood’s Golden Age, and a new biopic will soon explore their complicated relationship. Jamie Bell and Margaret Qualley will play the iconic dance duo in the upcoming musical Fred & Ginger.

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers rose to prominence during the 30s and starred in ten movies together, starting with Flying Down to Rio in 1933. This biopic will center on the early years of their career when their contrasting dance styles and competitive rivalry almost destroyed what went on to become a legendary partnership.

Fred & Ginger is one of the latest movies to hit the open market after Black Bear International launched the sales. Arash Amel (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) wrote the script for the project, while Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F*cking World) will direct.

Fred Berger, who previously produced the acclaimed musical La La Land, is coming on board as a producer, and he believes that Qualley and Bell are the perfect duo for the job.

“Margaret and Jamie were born to portray this legendary dance duo. We’re so excited to give people a big joyous event – brimming with spectacle and heart – that will leave you smiling, crying, and dancing out of the theater,” he said in a statement.
