Maribel Verdu Joins Ezra Miller’s “The Flash” Movie

Spanish actress Maribel Verdu is joining the cast of the DC’s The Flash movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Verdu, known for her works in Y Tu Mama Tambien and Pan’s Labyrinth, will portray The Flash/Barry Allen’s mother.

The Flash is expected to start filming in the UK at some point this summer and will see Ezra Miller returning to the titular role. Andy Muschietti (Mama, It) wrote the script and will direct. 

While the plot is still being kept under wraps, the movie will reportedly take place in multiple dimensions and should include time travel. Verdu’s character is expected to have an important role in the story.

Maribel Verdu is a respected name in Spain and Europe, having appeared in more than 60 movies since making her acting debut i 1986’s El Orden Cómico. She won two prestigious Goya Awards in the Best Actress category for her work in Gracia Querejeta’s Seven Billiard Tables and Pablo Berger’s Blancanieves.

The film will follow The Flash which, after finding his mother, will now embark on a search for a new father. Billy Crudup, who was set to play Barry Allen’s father, was forced to leave the project due to scheduling conflict with his Emmy Award-winning The Morning Show. The role will be recast in the coming weeks.
