Mark Hamill has joined Orion Pictures revival of Child’s Play.

Best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, Hamill has been set to voice star as the demonic doll in the “contemporary re-imagining” of the horror feature.

The news was announced Saturday at Orion’s pane presentation at WonderCon in Anaheim.

“If you’re wondering who’s going to play Chucky in the new Child’s Play,” Hamill said, “you’re looking at him.”

“We feel incredibly lucky to have an icon creating a new take on an iconic character,” said executive producer David Katzenberg. “Mark is a gifted actor and celebrated vocal performer, and he’s approached this challenge with incredible energy and commitment.”

Hamill will star alongside Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman and Brian Tyree Henry. The remake of the 1988 horror classic follows a mother (Plaza) who gives her son (Bateman) a doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

Hamill takes over from Brad Dourif who voiced Chucky in the original 1988 film and its six sequels.

Lars Klevberg will direct from a script by Tyler Burton Smith.
