The highly anticipated fourth entry in the John Wick film franchise has just added another exciting talent to its cast. Martial arts star Donnie Yen (Ip Man) is set to play a major role in John Wick 4, with the movie’s director Chad Stahelski confirming the news in a statement.

“We are very lucky to have Donnie Yen join the franchise,” said Stahelski. “I am looking forward to working with him in this exciting new role.”

According to reports, Yen’s character is described as a long-time friend of John Wick (Keanu Reeves). The two not only share similar history but also have a number of common enemies.

Yen’s addition to the project follows the casting of pop star Rina Sawayama in one of the lead roles.

John Wick 4 is expected to start with filming this summer in various locations in Japan, Germany, and France. The release date has been set for May 27, 2022.

Donnie Yen is a well-familiar name for fans of martial arts movies, having headlined a number of popular movies, including Ip Man, Iron Monkey, Flash Point, and many more. He also has a prolific career in Hollywood, appearing in blockbuster films Star Wars: Rogue One and XXX: Return of Xander Cage.
