Killers of the Flower Moon is one of the most anticipated films of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and Martin Scorsese found a way to build even more hype ahead of its world premiere. The first trailer for this Western crime drama is here, and it chronicles the brutal murders of the Osage tribe.

According to its official synopsis, Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

The trailer is accompanied by Leonardo DiCaprio’s narration, explaining the history of the Osage tribe before unveiling the film’s logline – greed is an animal that hungers for blood.

“The Osage took their name from Missouri and Osage Rivers. Ni-U-Kon-Ska. Children of the Middle Waters. ‘Move’, said the great white father. There are many, so many hungry wolves. Can you find the wolves in this picture?” says DiCaprio’s character in a Midwest accent.

Killers of the Flower Moon will also star Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, and Tantoo Cardinal. Following its world premiere in Cannes, the film will be released in select cinemas on October 6 before going wide on October 20.
