The Marvel Cinematic Universe jumps between timelines and the movies have not been released in chronological order. This can make things confusing for the Marvel super fan, let alone the amateur watcher.
Most recently, fans have found themselves confused by Spider-Man: Homecoming, which claimed to be set eight years after Avengers. To clear things up, Kevin Feige, aka the boss of Marvel Studios, has delivered an official MCU timeline. The timeline seems to indicate that the events in Homecoming, in fact, take place four years after the events of Avengers.
The timeline does not include the TV shows but places every Marvel movie in chronological order. You can view the list in the new Marvel Studios: The First 10 Years book. Alternatively, we’re giving you a sneak peek of the timeline here:
1943-1945: Captain America: The First Avenger
2010: Iron Man
2011: Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor
2012: Avengers, Iron Man 3
2013: Thor: The Dark World
2014: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
2015: Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man
2016: Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming
2016 through to 2017: Doctor Strange
2017: Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers 4 will be released April 26, 2019.
