Marvel’s Shows on Netflix Come to an End

That once prolific partnership between Marvel and Netflix has now turned to dust.

And Thanos isn’t even to blame.

In 2013, the streaming service ordered 5 series from the comic book studio, as well as a limited series starring The Defenders.

Netflix chose to cancel Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil late last year, likely in anticipation for Marvel’s content migrating to Disney’s new streaming service.

It seemed at the time that Jessica Jones and The Punisher had evaded the chop, but that is no longer the case… Netflix confirmed on Monday that both will be ending at the end of their current seasons.

“Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come,” Netflix said in a statement. “In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones. We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognised by the Peabody Awards among many others.”

The Punisher himself, Jon Bernthal, expresses his gratitude for the journey on Instagram:

So long, Marvel. It’s been real.
