There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding the casting of the Huntress in the upcoming Harley Quinn spin-off Birds Of Prey, but the search is finally over. Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been cast in the role of the notorious superhero vigilante alongside Margot Robbie.

The Fargo star will play Helena Bertinelli, aka the Huntress, a former mafia princess, who becomes a vigilante after witnessing the murder of her family. She’s often seen as a part of the main trifecta of the Birds of Prey, alongside Batgirl and Black Canary, who will be played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell.

The list of actresses considered for the role of the Huntress also included Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Margaret Qualley, and Cristin Milioti. Even before her casting became official, Mary Elizabeth Winstead said it would be really fun to be a part of this project and work with a great group of people she admires.

“This one, in particular, is really exciting because it’s an all-girl cast being directed by a woman. There’s not a lot in that world that is quite so female-driven, and the way that they’re looking to do it and to go about it is really interesting and new and exciting, so that is something I’m very interested in,” explained Winstead.
