The Great British Bake Off is set to be a little less cheery next season.
As contestants attempt to create custard tarts and upside-down cakes to impress the judges, they have been cheered from the sidelines by Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding. Now, after three years in the presenting role, Matt has announced that he is leaving the show.
“After three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else,” the Little Britain star wrote on Twitter. “I wish whomever takes over all the very best and I can’t wait to tune into the next series without already known who won!”
The decision came as Lucas realized it was too challenging to balance presenting GBBO, Fantasy Football League, and his various other projects.
In response to the announcement, the team from The Great British Bake Off thanked the 48-year-old for his time on the series.
“We’ve loved having Matt Lucas brighten up our Tent for the last three years, especially when laughter and smiles were so much in need. We appreciate everything he’s done for Bake Off, from working in covid bubbles to supporting the bakers.”
With season 13 of Bake Off having just concluded, there will likely still be time before Matt’s replacement is announced.
