Nick Cave‘s sophomore novel The Death of Bunny Munro is getting its TV adaptation and it’s slowly rounding out its cast. The Crown star Matt Smith will play the titular role in this promising project, in addition to coming on board as one of the executive producers.

This film will center on Bunny Munro, who embarks on an out-of-control road trip across south England with his son following his wife’s suicide. They must come to terms with their own grief traveling around Brighton, exploring locations inspired by real places close to Cave’s own home.

In addition to playing the titular role, Matt Smith will also executive produce this film, and he’s excited about the prospect of joining forces with Cave.

“To work alongside Nick Cave feels like a great honor. It’s a brilliant exploration of love, grief, and chaos. At its heart a deep, difficult, and tender story about a father and son, coping with loss and change,” said Smith in a statement.

The Death of Bunny Munro is being developed by Sky Studios, and it will feature a total of six episodes. The BAFTA-winning scribe Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy) is writing the script, while Cave is coming on board as an executive producer, along with Sky Studio’s Manpreet Dosanjh, Clerkenwell Films’ Petra Fried, Ed Macdonald and Emily Harrison, and director Isabella Eklöf.
