Matthew McConaughey delivered one of the best performances of his career in Nic Pizzolatto’s HBO series True Detective, and the two are getting ready to join forces again. The Oscar-winning actor scored the lead role in Pizzolatto’s upcoming FX show Redeemer.

This promising drama will be based on Patrick Coleman’s debut novel The Churchgoer, and it will tell the story of a former pastor, whose attempts to find a missing young woman lead him through corruption and criminal conspiracy.

Redeemer is a part of the overall deal that True Detective creator struck with FX, and it will serve as the first project to result from this partnership.

“I’m very excited at the opportunity to work with Matthew again and really grateful and thrilled to have the chance to create new shows for Fox 21 and FX,” said Pizzolatto in a statement.

Pizzolatto and McConaughey previously worked together on True Detective, which was a huge rating and critical hit, and followed similar gritty narrative as their upcoming show. McConaughey scored an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award nominations for his performance, alongside his co-star Woody Harrelson.
