A week after walking down the aisle as part of the biggest wedding of the year, Meghan Markle has received a rather special wedding gift.

Kensington Palace has announced that a specially created coat of arms has been bestowed on the now-Duchess of Sussex.

According to the Palace, the blue background of the shield represents the Pacific Ocean off the California coast, while the two golden rays across the shield are symbolic of the sunshine of The Duchess’s home state. The three quills represent communication and the power of words. Beneath the shield on the grass sits a collection of golden poppies, California’s state flower, and wintersweet, which grows at Kensington Palace.

In a break from tradition, the coat of arms was not assigned to Meghan’s family — just the Duchess.

Now that’s a gift fit for a princess.
