Attendees and honorees at the 2018 British Fashion Awards were in for a big surprise!

The awards ceremony which took place Monday at Royal Albert Hall in London had a royal surprise lined up — the pregnant Duchess of Sussex made an appearance and even presented an award.

Markle took to the stage dressed in a gorgeous bespoke black Givenchy gown. She accessorized with a gold bangle bracelet by Pippa Small and strappy heels by Tamara Mellon. She completed the look with her signature minimal makeup and a sleek low bun.

37-year-old Markle proved again that she’s a royal fashion rebel, as she opted for colored nail polish (which the Queen thinks is vulgar!), and an off the shoulder gown, which naturally goes against the royals’ affinity for more modest ensembles.

According to E! Online, the award was initially supposed to be presented by Rosamund Pike, however, as Pike took to the stage, she announced she was going to be joined by a “special guest”.

Markle presented Givenchy artistic director Clare Waight Keller with the award for Womenswear Designer of the Year. Keller is also the designer who Markle chose to design her wedding dress for her royal wedding to Prince Harry last May.

“I feel especially proud to announce tonight’s winner, who yes is a British designer leading on the global stage with vision and creativity, but also with incredible kindness,” Markle said. “Which is why when I met her for the first time 11 months ago I knew we would be working very closely together,” she added.

Keller is the first ever female artistic director of Givenchy. The gown Keller designed for Markle is currently on display at Windsor Castle.
