Mel Gibson is stepping behind the camera again.

For the first time since 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge the 62-year-old actor has been tapped to direct a feature film. Warner Bros. has chosen Gibson to direct and co-write a The Wild Bunch remake

Warner Bros. has tried several times to mount a remake. This remake could finally be it for the studios as the last Gibson-helmed movie won him an Oscar nomination.

The 1969 classic Western was directed by Sam Peckinpah followed an aging group of outlaws look for one last big score as the wild west is losing its place to the industrial age. The original starred Wiliam Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Edmond O’Brien, Warren Oates, Jaime Sanchez and Ben Johnson.

Gibson will also pen the script alongside Bryan Bagby as well as serving as executive producer.

It is still unknown if the remake will be a straightforward remake or opt to veer off the original story.

You can see Gibson next in the Tommy Wirkola-directed War Pigs.
